I don't know if the topic has ever been discussed. Basically, I think that the “Noise Reduction” function provides quite good results in terms of image noise. What bothers me, however, is that you cannot individually adjust how much additional detail sharpening should be, but that is done automatically. In itself, it sometimes improves the photos a bit more clearly that the edges are redrawn a bit more clearly. Unfortunately, it happens, especially with some lettering, when the photo itself was perhaps not 100% sharp or rather noisy, that the convulsive attempt at artificial sharpening then results in quite illegible and unnatural nonsense. Or if it works out to some extent, they sometimes stand out too clearly compared to the rest of the photo. Background details from bokeh are also often drawn more clearly, which should actually remain blurred, which then often leads to rather strange results and images that are no longer usable. The only option that came to mind was to use the blur and manually blur the artificially sharpened details a bit again, but that can't be the point of the matter and is not suitable in batch processing, especially with a large number of photos. I would find it very useful if you could divide up the function so that you could set the level of pure noise and once the level of detail sharpening independently of each other so that, in case of doubt, you could “only” carry out normal noise removal completely without or with minimal detail sharpening, which would often lead to better and more realistic results with many photos.
