Historically, subtitles and their .srt files conform to a relatively basic format. Within the rules only basic markup type of text formatting is allowed.

However, over the years, some enhancements can be incorporated and can be read by certain software.

PowerDirector has always stuck to a relatively standard implementation of subtitles, presumably to ensure the widest compatibility. If you need further text enhancements, like animations, then you will be better looking at titles.
